Can I eat fruit while fasting?

Eating and Fasting · 1 min read · Aug 13, 2025
During the fasting period, it’s important to avoid foods that contain sugar. This means you can't eat fruit, as it contains fructose, which can break your fast. In addition to fruit, the following foods should also be avoided during fasting:

1. Whey Protein

While whey protein doesn’t raise blood sugar, it does spike insulin levels similarly to bread. Insulin is needed for muscle building, which is why whey protein is beneficial after a workout, but not during fasting.

2. BCAA

Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) also stimulate insulin production, even though they are extremely low in calories.

3. Oat Milk

Oat milk is primarily starch with very little protein. Many people mistakenly think it’s a good source of plant-based protein, but it’s not ideal for fasting due to its high carbohydrate content.
