Lowering blood lipids
The study found that after 8 weeks of alternate-day fasting, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly known as "bad" cholesterol, decreased by 25%, while triglycerides decreased by 32%.
The second study involved 110 obese adults who underwent a 3-week fasting program under professional medical supervision. Results showed significant decreases in blood pressure, blood lipids, total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol. Additionally, the participants experienced a significant increase in insulin sensitivity.
These findings suggest that fasting, when properly implemented and monitored, may be an effective approach for improving lipid profiles and overall metabolic health in certain individuals.
